Matching our good quality medieval chain mail shirts we are offering this chain mail cape for reenactors of Roman legionairies.
They were recently handmade from zinc plated 16 gauge steel links, combined in the early pattern (4 links through the 5th), inner link dia. 3/8" (10 mms).

Zinc coating protects them from rust.

From ancient reliefs on legionairies burial sites we know that these ?capes? were losely fitted over the legionairies? shoulders.
They must have been held in place by a system of laces and it is also known that S-shaped iron or possibly brass fasteners were used.

Their length (measured from front to back) is 24" (60 cms.)
and their width on the legionairies? back is 22" (55 cms).
On the top part and on the sides they are lined with black leather.
Total weight is 5 lbs (2.2 kgs.)
Distance between the strips: 20 cm
Length of strip: 21 cm
