I am selling a copy of a Roman shield for reenactors in original size.
This style of shield with its handmade painted design was copied from grave steles for legionnaires and trajan's column in Rome.

Experts are sure that oval shields preceded the rectangular ones. Those were introduced when the new combat technique, the "tortoise" was invented around the time of the change from BC to AD.

Our shield is made from 12mm (1/2 inch) plywood with a linen surface and a rim of leather.

It weighs abt. 8.5 kgs. (19 lbs).
Overall height : 126 cms. (50 inch),
Overall width : 88 cms. (35 inch).

Its steel buckle can be easily mounted and de-mounted by 8 screws with brass knobs on top as shown on my bottom photo.
For a better protection during shipment we send the buckle demounted.
