U01 - Scrimshaw whaler souvenir USA around 1850
Originals of these ivory-like pot whale teeth are very sought-after collector pieces. During their whaling trips the sailors used to leave the memories of their journeys on these bones by using a fine needle and brought them home as souvenir.
These well-done reproductions of symbols of old sailor-romanticism show old sailing boats and have the following inscriptions:
1. The Dakota 1860 Nantucket, 2. Stenrofjord, CAPTN VINCENT.
The "teeth" are generated from an artistry cast which parallels the originals in its colour, structure and weight. Its exact measures are the following:
