U33 - Scrimshaw big walrus tooth, USA 1844
Originals of these ivory-like walrus teeth are very sought-after collector pieces. During their whaling trips the sailors used to leave the memories of their journeys on these teeth by using a fine needle and brought them home as souvenirs. This well-done reproduction of the symbol of old sailor-romanticism shows an old sailing boat, many whales and carries the following inscription: 1. THE WALER PRINCE. 1st MATE BPWERS. Taken from Dead Walrus Oct. 17 1844.
