U34 - Scrimshaw pot whale tooth, Vicksburg USA
Originals of these ivory-like pot whale teeth are very sought-after collector pieces. During their whaling trips the sailors used to leave the memories of their home or their journeys on these teeth by using a fine needle and brought them home as gifts. This well-done reproduction of the symbol of old sailor-romanticism shows a Mississippi-paddle steamer that most probably hailed from Vicksburg. The back displays percussion pistols from around 1850, sabers and a bald eagel. This "pot whale tooth" is generated from an artistry cast and parallels the original in its colour, structure and weight. Its exact measures are the following:
