U71 - Turtle Shell Scrimshaw - Capt. Cook discovers Australia
This excellent scrimshaw replica celebrates Capt.James Cook's Voyages from 1760 till 1780.It shows his ships HMS Adventure and HMS Resolution and many scenes from his voyages to Australia.This museum-quality reproduction looks realistically worn, its weight is correct and so are all the incised scenes.
It is 38cms.(15 inches) high,
30 cms.(12 inches) wide and
10 cms.( 4 inches) protracting from the wall.
The "shell" weighs 1.7 kgs (5.75 lbs).
A wire for its wall attachment is cast into the shell (see middle photo).
